Woman pleads guilty in shooting of stepfather

A Rexburg woman facing charges in the shooting of her stepfather pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal Friday.

In the Fremont County Courthouse, Jessica Brown pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting attempted murder in connection to a shooting in April in Island Park. The state has agreed to dismiss a charge of conspiracy to commit murder if Brown cooperates in the investigation.

Brown admitted to providing ammunition, transportation and a hotel room to Jermaine Wiley of Bakersfield, Calif. Prosecutors said Wiley shot her stepfather, Eric Norlen of Driggs, in the shoulder and in the back of his head.

Norlen was hospitalized and released.

On Friday, Brown said Wiley was supposed to intimidate Norlen over a child custody dispute involving her 2-year-old daughter.

Brown has since given birth to another child. Wiley has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. His trial is scheduled for September.

Brown’s next court appearance is also scheduled for September.
