City approves Pocatello Pet Lodge move

The Pocatello Pet Lodge is now free to move from its current location to new facilities on Pole Line Road.

Pocatello City Council voted to rezone the Pole Line building Thursday night to allow for overnight boarding of animals.

Council chambers were packed as council members spent almost two hours listening to comments from neighbors both for and against the move.

Linette Chavis, who lives on Nixon Road, handed City Council members a petition to stop the move that she said is signed by “80 percent” of the neighborhood. Chavis said she’s concerned about barking, smells and additional traffic.

“When other dogs bark in the neighborhood, my dogs bark, and so, there’s gonna be continually barking, barking, barking, barking,” said Chavis.

But Elaine Jacobson, a longtime Pet Lodge customer, said she’s never known the Pet Lodge to be loud or unclean.

“It’s very clean. Outside the building when I approach it, I don’t smell, you know, dog poop,” said Jacobson.

Pet Lodge owner Stephanie Adams said there would never be more than 10 dogs outside at a time, and she said they would be supervised at all times.

Adams said the Pet Lodge regularly cleans and deodorizes their yard. As for traffic concerns, she said they currently average around 30 clients per day.

There is no word on when the move could happen.
