Student director wins Distinguished Student Award

Aubrey Williams was one of the narrators in Snake River High School’s production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

“I love this production because we have so many kids, and it’s a story most people know, and it’s fun to be able to interpret it the way we do, and be able to act it out and play with it and have fun,” Williams said.

Not only did Williams play a leading role, she was the student director and won high praise from director Jana McBride for her great work on the show. One of the most rewarding things about being in a production like “Joseph” for Williams is the bond that develops among cast members.

“I love the people here,” Williams said. “We are all so close. We are like family.”

Williams keeps busy between piano and voice lessons and running her own cupcake business. Service is also part of her schedule. Williams is in a partners club that works with Special Olympic kids, getting them ready for the competition.

“I love it because the kids are so excited,” Williams said. “It doesn’t matter how well they do, they’re super excited and they’re super excited for everyone else, and the competition is less.”

Williams also keeps up with a challenging academic schedule that includes Advanced Placement and Honors classes. She gets near perfect grades.

“It’s not so much about the grade, but teaching you to try your best and work hard because that’s going to be important in your future, like as a mom or with a job, or whatever you do in life, it’s important to work hard in whatever you do,” Williams said.
