Foodbank: $10,000 donation could provide 80,000 meals

Thousands of hungry Idahoans will no longer have to go without after the Idaho Foodbank’s Pocatello branch was presented with a $10,000 donation from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation on Thursday.

The foodbank is currently in the middle of campaign during which Wells Fargo and Albertson’s have agreed to match each dollar donated to the foodbank.

That means Thursday’s $10,000 donation instantly becomes $20,000, which the foodbank said should help them serve around 80,000 meals.

“As the economy has gotten better, people think that we don’t need any help anymore, but we still know that there’s about 54,000 food-insecure individuals in eastern Idaho,” said the foodbank’s director, Rebecca Ristrem.

The foodbank’s Pocatello branch currently distributes 400,000 pounds of food each month to a 16-county area.
