High school ballroom team invited to major competition

A high school ballroom dance team from Bonneville County has been chosen to dance with a top Latin dance couple in Florida.

Extreme Ballroom holds programs for children as young as 3, all the way up to a competitive high school team. The older teams travel all over to show off their fancy footwork.

Recently, the Elite Junior Gold team competed in a tournament in Utah. A judge there was so taken by them, he invited the team to perform along sideRiccardo Cocchi and Yulia Zagoryuchenko at the Millenium Dancesport Championships in Tampa, Florida. The Latin dance couple is world-renowned: they’ve won world championships and made several appearances on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

The Extreme Team dancers are excited for the opportunity. Eighth-grade student Lexi Hepworth says the dance they’ll perform, “Coca-Cola Medley,” is about fun more than anything else.

“When we go out there to perform, it’s not all about winning. When we dance this dance, we have fun, and it makes you feel so good,” said Hepworth.

Extreme Ballroom’s owner, Staci Huston, says Cocchi andZagoryuchenko have a routine to one of the songs in the medley. Huston’s team will likely dance around the couple to that song.
