Bonfire explosion burns four

Updated with names of victims.

A bonfire explosion late Friday night burned four people, said Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to an area of Kepps Crossing, east of Idaho Falls, after a bonfire exploded and several people were burned.

Deputies said four patients were taken to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance and a private vehicle.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said three of the victims were at the Utah Burn Center: Matthew L. Helms, 22, Ethan M. Mulberry, 21, and Dallin R Hope, 18, all of Idaho Falls. The burn center would not give their conditions.

In addition, a 17-year-old girl was admitted to EIRMC.

When lighting a fire, one person threw gasoline onto the flames and caused an explosion, the sheriff’s office said.
