Career ladder first steps to restoring education funding

Education was one of the biggest issues this legislative session, and most of the discussion was based around funding. The career ladder was one of the biggest issues with education funding.

Under the new law starting pay for teachers will go up to $37,000 over the next five years.

The superintendent for school district 91 said once they work with the new law then they will know where to go from there. He said like any new law there will likely have to be some changes.

Superintendent George Boland said this is the first step in restoring education funding.

“We’re still not funded as we were in 2009, so there’s some ground that needs to be made up but it’s a good start and the career ladder is a part of that,” he said.

The legislature is still in session, but Boland said enough has been done to start planning for the next school year.
