ISU app focuses on safety

A new app at Idaho State University is letting students, staff and faculty have quicker access to the public safety department.

The app, called Rave Guardian, lets public safety and other loved ones know where you’re going when traveling alone or somewhere unfamiliar. It works by setting a safety timer, where you input your starting point and destination.

There are also several call and text features. In the emergency section, you can call public safety or other local law enforcement with a single tap. You can also text tips and photos directly to public safety’s dispatch center.

“This just gives the students one more tool that, in the event of an emergency, they have another way to get ahold of us right there on spot,” said Phil Moessner, associate vice president of facilities services and public safety. “Not having to go find a phone or flag somebody down or something like that.”

ISU students, staff and faculty use their ISU emails to register for the app. It is available on all four of ISU’s campuses and can even be downloaded on tablets like the iPad. On tablets, the call and text features are not available to use.
