Man arrested after ISP trooper finds heroin in car
A Utah man was arrested on drug-trafficking charges in a traffic stop in Franklin County, Idaho State Police said.
An ISP trooper stopped a car traveling northbound on U.S. 91 near the Utah border for a traffic infraction Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. During the stop, the driver, Andres Avila-Rivera, 34 of Ogden, consented to a search of his vehicle. The trooper found about 201 grams of brown heroin inside worth an estimated $60,000.
Avila-Rivera was arrested on a felony charge of trafficking in heroin. If convicted, he will face a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of $25,000, ISP said.
Avila-Rivera was booked into the Caribou County Jail.
