Heavy snow, numerous accidents close I-80 in SE Wyoming
A 150-mile section of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Rawlins is closed because of heavy snow and weather-related accidents.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports some 60 cars and trucks involved in about three separate pileups about 15 miles west of Cheyenne on both sides of the highway. No fatalities have been reported but the Highway Patrol reports multiple injuries.
The National Weather Service has posted winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories for southeast Wyoming, including Cheyenne and Laramie. Up to a foot of snow is possible in the surrounding mountains.
Snow lingered Thursday in areas of central Wyoming where more than a foot of snow fell Wednesday in some mountains. Lander received about 6 inches and Cody 4 inches.
