ISU vigil raises $2,100 for Nepal earthquake victims
Around 150 people made it to the Idaho State University Quad Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil and fundraiser in support of victims of Saturday’s earthquake in Nepal.
The ISU Nepalese Student Association said its members raised $2,100 from the vigil alone and an additional $1,000 from donations they collected throughout the day.
“I just felt like crying. I think i cried a couple of times,” said Avinash Lohni of the pictures of devastation and ruin coming out of Nepal. Lohni’s family is still in Nepal and are currently sleeping in the open for fear of aftershocks.
“It just happens to others, but when it happens to yourself, it’s like a wake up call. You see your own people getting injured, dying,” said Lohni.
ISU students plan to continue collecting donations on campus for the rest of the week.
