Oneida County gets new judge
The 6th Judicial Magistrates’ Commission has selected David A. Hooste as the new Oneida County magistrate judge, the commission announced Monday.
He will replace David L. Evans on July 1. Evans will retire as a full-time judge to be a senior judge June 30.
Hooste was chosen from six applicants.
He currently lives in Firth and is an associate attorney with Echo Hawk Law, emphasizing family law, criminal law, contract law, creditor’s rights and collection cases. He got his Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in 1997 and his Juris Doctorate from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, in 2000. Hooste has worked on cases for various tribes in the region, including the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. He was chief deputy prosecuting attorney in Bingham County from 2005 to 2010.
He is married to Cheryse Hooste and they have five children, ranging in ages 4 to 14, and enjoys playing and coaching g football, baseball, basketball, softball and golf.
