Crowd flocks to Cabela’s opening

Cabela’s is now officially open in Ammon.

The staff opened the doors Thursday morning to more than 1,000 eager shoppers. Some of them had camped out for more than 17 hours.

Store management held a short rally to welcome everybody. The first 300 shoppers in line were given a Cabela’s gift card.

Everyone we talked to seemed very happy with the new store.

“Yeah, it was like a really awesome experience,” said shopper Nicole Esse. “They made the crowd a lot of fun, they got everybody energized. It was really fun.”

Shopper Franklin Anderson was also excited.

“When we came from Salt Lake a year ago — that’s the only thing I missed was Cabela’s down there,” said Anderson. “We moved up with family up here. I’ve just been waiting, waiting and waiting. It’s like the temple coming to my hometown.”

Cabela’s will hold giveaways for the first 50 customers when it opens for business Friday and this weekend.
