Local church blesses motorcycles

Blazing Grace Church visited with members in Soda Springs to bless them and their motorcycles for a safe ride this year.

The church has been doing the blessing annually in Pocatello for the past 10 years, but due to bad weather this year members from Soda Springs couldn’t make it.

Before the blessing, Rev. Jim Jones holds a small service. Afterward the motorcycles and their owners are blessed individually.

“We bless their iron horse and that the season will be free from debris and mechanical failures,” said Jones.

Motorcyclists at the blessing said it helps give them a peace of mind when they ride.

“You don’t have that security blanket like you do in a car,” said Minor Thompson, who had his motorcycle blessed. “The only thing between you and your maker is your wits and who’s traveling on your shoulders.”

Jones said he welcomes everybody to Blazing Grace Church, saying to “come as you are.”
