Pocatello man to plead guilty in bank robberies

A Pocatello man has entered a plea agreement in two bank robberies.

Randy Ted Jordan is set to change his plea to guilty at a hearing May 28 in U.S. District Court in Pocatello.

Jordan was indicted after bank robberies in Chubbuck on July 26, Ogden, Utah, on Aug. 7, and Coeur d’Alene on Oct. 4. He is now being charged in connection with the Chubbuck and Ogden robberies.

According to the plea agreement, Jordan entered the ISU Credit Union in Chubbuck and asked an employee how much money it took to open an account. Jordan then left the bank and returned moments later and said he wanted to open an account. He sat at the manager’s desk and then said he had forgotten to bring the money. He left the bank again.

Jordan returned a few minutes later, walked behind the counter where employees work, lifted his shirt and showed a handgun tucked into his waistband, according to the plea agreement. Jordan allegedly demanded the money from the drawers, which the tellers gave him. He then removed his gun from his waistband, took the tellers to a back room and tied their hands with zip ties, authorities said.

In the Ogden incident, Jordan approached one of the teller windows and placed a device the size of a cell phone apparently wrapped in duct tape on the counter.

“This is a bomb. Give me all your money,” Jordan is quoted as saying in the plea agreement. “If I press a button on my cell phone, it will go off.”

The tellers gave him the money from the drawers.

The bank robbery charges are each punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, a special assessment of $100 and three years of supervised release
