Blown tire leads to collision on I-15

Four people were hospitalized in an accident on Interstate 15 near the Pocatello Creek Road Exit on Thursday.

Idaho State Police said Adam B. Schrand, 42, of Apache Junction, Arizona, was driving southbound in a 2001 Ford pickup pulling a camper trailer/toy hauler, when a tire on the pickup blew around 12:30 p.m.

Luke Viernow, 37, of Pleasant View, Utah, was driving northbound in a 2001 Freightliner truck pulling a trailer. Schrand’s and Viernow’s vehicles collided north of the Pocatello Creek Road on-ramp.

The wreck blocked all northbound lanes of travel.

Police said everyone involved were wearing seat belts. Schrand and his three passengers were taken by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

The northbound lanes were blocked for about two hours. All lanes of travel, including the northbound on-ramp, were opened about two and a half hours after the crash.
