Public expresses concern about hydroelectric project
The three sisters missing in Teton County, Wyoming, have been found, rescuers said.
Search and Rescue spokesperson Lori Iverson said a helicopter spotted Megan Margaret Andrews-Sharer, 25, Erin Elizabeth Andrews-Sharer, 22, and Kelsie Moriah Andrews-Sharer, 16, near the top of the divide between Horse Creek and Little Horse Creek in the Gros Ventre Wilderness.
“They’re tired, cold, hungry, but otherwise healthy and happy to be on their way out,” said Iverson.
Searchers were looking in the area after a guide with Horse Creek Outfitters noted a person wearing a white rain jacket in an area with no trails. He told authorities Thursday morning when he learned there was a search in progress.
Incident command redirected the helicopter to the coordinates the guide provided, and the girls were found within 20 minutes.
The sisters had last been heard from June 29 when they made a phone call to their mother.
They had set out with supplies for a multi-day trip in the backcountry. The sheriff’s office said the sisters had the right equipment and were prepared for their ordeal.
Their car, a black 2008 Saturn Vue with Wisconsin license plates, was found at the Swift Creek trailhead near Granite Creek Hot Springs in the Bridger-Teton National Forest on Wednesday afternoon.
The sisters were found seven miles from the car.
About 100 people from local and federal agencies helped with the search.
