Custer County Search and Rescue look for missing boater

Custer County Search and Rescue teams continued their search Sunday for a missing boater in Redfish Lake.

Deputies say Joel Castro Juarez jumped from his rental boat without a life jacket at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to retrieve a piece of clothing.

Authorities say Juarez was overcome by cold water shock and it was unable return to the boat. Two people from the boat jumped in to save him and were also overcome by cold water. They were unable to lift Juarez into the boat and lost their hold on him before he began to sink below the surface near the Point Campground.

The boat party was able to get nearby boaters to call 911. Custer County marine deputies began a search but were unable to find Juarez. Search and Rescue teams were called in to help and continued the search until nightfall.

The search continued early Sunday morning with volunteers, boats, divers, water search dogs and a submersible robot.
