Racing commision says Intermountain Racing’s license should be suspended
The Idaho Racing Commission says an eastern Idaho’s horse racing track’s license, to operate lucrative betting terminals, should be suspended. Track officials say they will continue to remain open while appealing the order.
According to Theresa Baker with the Idaho State Police, who oversee the Idaho Racing Commission, a preliminary order was issued late Friday stating that 2015 license should be suspended.
It was determined in April that Intermountain Racing and Entertainment, LLC did not have county approval to operate off-track, at the Double Down location, because it did not have county commission approval.
County Commission Chairman Roger Christensen said his board is still waiting for Intermountain Racing to answer questions the commission posed in April and May. The board wanted that information before scheduling a public hearing to consider renewing its operating license. Specifically, the commission wanted to know how Intermountain Racing was able to move from Sandy Downs to the Double Down Betting, Sports Bar and Grill off Interstate 15. Their original simulcast license from the county only authorized operation at Sandy Downs.
The temporary order does not take effect for 14 days, which would fall on September 18th. In the meantime, Intermountain Racing may appeal the decision. If they do, the racing commission may either review the decision or enter the final order to end operations.
