All clear after suspicious item found in Idaho Falls
The all clear has been given in downtown Idaho Falls after a suspicious device was found in a mailbox in the area of Park and A Street, Wednesday afternoon.
The Bomb Squad used its robot and an officer in a bomb suit to render the device safe and remove it from the mailbox.
The Idaho Falls Police Department says the call of the suspicious device came in around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
People in the area were told to stay inside while the bomb squad took care of the situation.
After the all-clear was given, police say they determined the device was not a threat.
Idaho Falls Police SpokespersonJoelyn Hansen says “The package – though it looked suspicious – was only a postal mailing box with a disposable camera duct taped to the outside of it. According to investigators, the package was tracked to a mentally disabled man who misunderstood mailing regulations. Police do not believe there was any criminal intent.”
