Bonneville school district hosts Careers on Wheels
Bonneville School District 93 held its twelfth annual “Careers On Wheels” event for all district sixth graders Friday. Local businesses from the area talked to the kids about future careers and what jobs might be available to them.
36 businesses showed up, including representatives from the Fire Department, the Bonneville County Sheriffs Office, and the Idaho Falls Zoo.
About 900 students attended, divided into groups, and had ten minutes at each station.
The students also got to do some “hands on learning” at the station.
Some spent time manning a fire hose, exercising with the Apple Athletic Club, and even dressing up as a mortician with the help of representatives from Wood Funeral Home.
One school counselor said it was an important event for both educators and students.
“I think they really like it. I think they like getting out of the school for a day.” stated Angie Winchester, a school counselor from Tiebreaker Elementary School. “But I know they like learning about the different careers, and understanding about the importance of school, like not just recess and lunch, but also math and science and english. And then they understand what it takes to go into a different career and training and everything.”
