Homeless man arrested for causing damage to property

Idaho Falls Police arrested 20-year-old Trevor W. Pettit for felony malicious injury to property after he caused thousands of dollars in damage to the Idaho Livestock Auction building on Northgate Mile early Saturday morning.

Pettit, homeless, was also booked into the Bonneville County Jail for providing false information to police and unlawful entry.

According to reports, officers responded to a burglary in progress at the stockyards, 701 Northgate Mile, around 8:25 a.m. Employees had advised police that someone was in the building.

Officers arrived and found Pettit inside the auction arena seating area.

Police learned Pettit had broken a window on the east end of the building to make entry. Police also found that he damaged signs, banners, lighting fixtures, art work, windows, doors and more. The damage is estimated at $5,000.

Prior to finding out his real identity, Pettit provided police with the false name Henry Mills. Henry Mills is the name of a television show character from the TV series Once Upon a Time.
