Healthy food motivation in D93
Bonneville School District 93 is using a bit of healthy motivation to get kids to eat better at school. The trick is using simple colorful wrist bands that the kids use to track whether or not they’ve eaten fruits or vegetables for the day.
“You start with the bands on one hand and then by the end of the day, if you’ve eaten your fruits and vegetables, you move them over one for each time,” said Heather Plain, D93’s Child Nutrition Supervisor.
To get the kids motivated to switch the bands over, participating schools will be hosting a competition between grades.
“At the end of the day, they will be able to track who’s moved it (the wrist bands) over,” said Plain. “They’re going to have a poster, and each grade will have a section to color in.”
D93 hopes to teach life long healthy eating habits. All of the wrist bands were paid for by a small state grant.
