Men’s high school A Cappella group making a name for itself
Two years ago Cooper Brady and some of his choir friends attended a big barbershop singing festival in Rexburg. After that Brady became hooked on men’s a cappella singing.
“I sang with a bunch of kids in choir and I found a couple boys who loved it as much as I did,” Brady said. “We wanted to bring the joy of singing to other people and fill our lives with it.”
Kaden Godfrey remembers well how excited Brady was to start a male barbershop quartet.
“Out of nowhere he busts out and says, ‘Hey, I got a couple of other guys. We should totally do it because it’s been our dream for a long time,’ ” Godfrey said.
The quartet began singing at churches and other small events. Then, as more joined they outgrew quartet status and became a male a cappella group. A cappella means they sing without accompaniment. They practice twice a week at Brady’s home. It’s a big commitment but group members say it’s worth it.
“I like to do it because I like to see the joy in other people because of what I can offer to them,” Obediah Egbert said.
Silent Rush’s reputation spread and this Friday they’ll be the opening act for the renowned Utah male singing group Voice Male at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center. The dedication has paid off for this bunch of guys eager to spend weekends, lunch hours and after school time practicing for the love of entertaining.
The concert for Voice Male that Silent Rush will be singing at is Friday at 7 p.m. at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center.
