Nielsen reports people are straying away from cable television

A study by Nielsen shows that more than 16 million households across the united states are getting rid of cable television, and switching to antennas and streaming devices.

In our area, many people are making the switch for costs and accessibility.

“It gets outrageous sometimes I have customers who have $200 bills for cable and internet,” said Josh Kidwiler, a sales consultant at Best Buy in Idaho Falls.

These devices include streaming devices like Roku, Amazon Fire, and Apple TV.

The upfront costs for these streaming devices range from $30-$90, with additional streaming services costing about $10 per service.

“It’s very cost effective so I mean if you have $100 cable bill for just tv you can really shave that down in half maybe even down to like $20 depending on how much you wanna watch,”said Kidwiler.

Coming up on Local News 8 at six and Eyewitness News at 5:30, we’ll show you how cost effective these new streaming devices are and what people in our area are using.
