Pocatello listed as a top retirement destination
In their new issue on Oct. 13, “Where to Retire” magazine is featuring Pocatello and three other cities as top retirement destinations.
Gayle Peck decided to retire in the Gate City six years ago. While she’s a local, she knows a number of retirees from out-of-state who decided to settle in the city.
“One of the little couples that came here is from Hawaii,” she said as she looked around the senior center’s cafeteria.
Why Pocatello exactly? The magazine cites the city’s historic downtown area, outdoor accessibility and the number of performances and events by Idaho State University.
Peck has another thing to add to the list.
“When you go into a place like this or any place, people come up and talk to you,” she said. “Some places you go, people aren’t that friendly.”
Peck also likes how people are involved in the community in Pocatello. She, herself, has a pretty big list of things with which she’s been involved with. At the senior center, she books entertainment for lunch, but that’s after serving on the board of directors and other positions.
She has a simple reason for doing it all.
“It gets me out of the house and makes me do something,” Peck laughed.
Other cities that made the cut this issue are Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Springfield, Missouri, and Dade City, Florida.
