Boy Scouts “Scout For Food”

Boy Scouts in Idaho collected canned foods and other non-perishable items from neighborhood doorsteps this morning. Their plan is to collect one million food items this year before the holidays.

Branch manager of the Pocatello food bank Rebecca Ristrem says there are approximately 55,000 eastern Idaho families in need this year, 21,000 of which, are children. She says the food doesn’t just get donated to Pocatello, but all of eastern Idaho.

The food will be collected from the food bank and distributed out to nine different food pantries throughout the region.

“The community and the scouts, I want to thank them. Without the community we would have had the scouts pick up the food. And so, what’s going on today, it’s together – we can solve hunger,” said Ristrem.

If you haven’t donated and would like to, you can bring non-glassed food to The Boy Scouts building on Pocatello Creek Road. Or, straight to the food bank Warehouse at 555 S. 1st Ave. in Pocatello.
