Pocatello man sentenced for insurance fraud

Jeffrey J. Zausch, 28, of Pocatello has been sentenced for one count of insurance fraud.

Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said Zausch was given a withheld judgment, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, pay GEICO $376 in restitution, pay a $1,250 fine and serve three years on probation.

Zausch pleaded guilty to one felony count of insurance fraud September 8.

Zausch wrecked his vehicle on February 3, 2014. An off-duty Idaho State Police officer called in the wreck and a Bannock County Sheriff’s Deputy responded. He identified Zausch as the driver. Zausch had his vehicle towed to his home in Pocatello that same day.

On February 4, Zausch called his insurance carrier, GEICO, to change his policy from liability only to full coverage. 16 days later, Zausch contacted his carrier to report he was involved in an accident on February 18, and filed a claim, stating that law enforcement did not respond to the accident.

GEICO investigators referred the matter to the Idaho Department of Insurance Fraud Investigation Unit for additional investigation.

Zausch is probably best known for his two appearances on the Discovery channel television show “Naked and Afraid”.
