Banquet honors police for service

Through the “Thank A Cop” promotion, Pocatello Nissan Kia honored 20 eastern Idaho police officers at a banquet at Idaho State University’s Stephens Performing Arts Center Wednesday.

Pocatello Kia Nissan has been gathering nominations for exemplary police officers from April to August. Nominations came from co-workers and even people who’ve been helped by officers in the past.

The promotion was inspired by the negative media attention police have gotten recently.

“It really struck a cord with me and members of my company,” said Chris Russell, Pocatello Nissan Kia owner. “It’s time we stand up and recognize the police officers that do good because we see way too much bad. There’s so much more good that these police officers do in our community.”

Police officers at the banquet were eligible for prizes. They ranged from tickets to the University of Utah’s football game against UCLA, to a four night Baja Mexico cruise.
