ISU frat brings first ‘Day of the Dead’ celebration to Gate City
Idaho State University fraternity Lambda Theta Phi is working with students organizations and Pocatello businesses to celebrate “Day of the Dead” to bring more culture to the community.
The event will feature food, as well as traditional crafts and music of the holiday. The event will also feature an altar to remember loved ones who have passed on, which is the reason the holiday is celebrated in Latino culture.
Lambda Theta Phi wants to bridge the culture gap between Latinos and the rest of the community.
“(The holiday) is so culturally enriched and it’s so educational that it can adapt to a lot of people,” said Mike Fernandez, president of Lambda Theta Phi. “It is remembering your loved ones that have passed and remembering them in a way that you remember the good times with them.”
The event will be this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at ISU’s Pond Student Union. It is free to attend.
