Raising diabetes awareness

November is National Diabetes Awareness month, and a new study shows that more and more people are living with the disease.

Merri Ann Bowler, a Diabetes Educator for Madison Memorial Hospital said,” Diabetes is growing across the country and has serious consequences as you said and sometimes it’s hard to recognize because you may not notice it at first.”

Some symptoms include: excessive thirst, being extra tired, and even being extra hungry.

She also talked about the dangers of ignoring symptoms, “You can loose your sight even your legs can be amputated and things like that.”

However, if you spot these signs early, it can help change your fate. “Please take care of it because you may not feel the consequences now, but you will later. Said Bowler,”We just want you to be happy and healthy for as long as you can.”

Diabetes can be detected by taking, a A1C blood test that measures your blood sugar levels over the past two or three months.
