Attempted burglary investigation leads to bigger crimes

The investigation into an attempted burglary in Soda Springs has led police to a multi-state crime operation.

A man in Soda Springs was shot after Jeremy Ashley, 32, was caught in the man’s home. Ashley fled in a stolen car. Police lost Ashley, but found the car he stole crashed near Blackfoot River and North Trail roads.

Ashley stole a 2006 Dodge pickup from there.

The Soda Springs Police Department said Ashley was arrested in the Denver metro area on Oct. 26 for a different crime and on Soda Springs’ warrants.

Two others from Colorado have also been arrested after being found in the pickup Ashley fled Soda Springs in. The police then found connections with the three to meth and gun trafficking from Denver to southeast Idaho.

Ashley is currently being extradited from Colorado to Caribou County. There are also outstanding warrants for a fourth suspect in the case.
