Shoshone-Bannock Tribes distribute vet ID cards
Starting this week, tribal members can get a new ID showing their veteran status.
The design of the card shows a bald eagle juxtaposed with the U.S. flag. It also says what branch of the military the veteran served in and has the word ‘veteran’ above and below the card holder’s picture.
The Fort Hall Business Council worked with the tribe’s enrollment department to create the new cards.
Holders of the card are eligible for discounts at businesses on the reservation, in Blackfoot and in Pocatello. Businesses include Tribal Enterprises, O’Reilly’s, Autozone, Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, Golden Corral, Elmer’s Restaurant, Footlocker, IHOP, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Most importantly, the purpose of the card is to recognize tribal members who have served in the military.
“We’re very proud of our military servicemen. They’ve served the United States as well as the tribe,” said Terry Racehorse, tribal enrollment director. “We’re proud of them and we wanted to bring recognition to them.”
To get a card, veterans need to present a DD-214 form to show time of service, branch of service and type of discharge. Anyone with questions can contact the enrollment department at 208-478-3963.
