Thanksgiving shopping on a budget
It’s a busy week at grocery stores because everyone is shopping for Thanksgiving.
So how big of a price difference will you find between stores?
The American Far Bureau Federation’s 30th annual informal price survey of classic items found on the Thanksgiving Day dinner table indicates the average cost of this year’s feast for 10 is $50.11, a 70-cent increase from last year’s average of $49.41.
We stopped by a couple stores, including Broulim’s, Fred Meyer, Winco and Johnson’s Discount Food’s.
Traditional food items such as: turkey, yams, cranberries, dinner rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans and to finish up the main course pumpkin pie.
Broulims had a lot of buy two for the price of one. They also had marked down prices on their Thanksgiving goodies.
Compared to that of Fred Meyers who’s sale prices were slightly higher.
For example Broulims had two pumpkin pies for the cost of $7.
Winco, had the cheapest cost for turkey. A Jennie-O turkey is $1.98 a pound for a 20 pound turkey for a total cost of $26.76 not adding tax.
One shopper said her limited budget this year has attracted her to discount shopping.
Last year, she said she spent $118 year to feed her family. So far this year Donna Horton spent, “A total of I don’t know probably $34 dollars.”
