Rexburg Police investigate burglaries

Rexburg Police are hunting a burglar who struck several apartments overnight Friday, while occupants were asleep in adjoining rooms.

Police say a burglar escaped with a backpack and two laptops from an apartment in Alpine Chalet at 460 South 2nd West. A burglar took three laptops from another apartment in the same building.

A laptop was also reported stolen from an apartment at the Brookside Village Apartments at 487 South 3rd West. In every case, the victims were asleep in the apartment at the time of the burglary and front doors were left unlocked.

Because all the thefts happened at about the same time, police believe all three burglaries are related.

Captain Randy Lewis encouraged students and homeowners to be sure to lock their doors and, if they leave for the holidays, to make sure they put valuable items out of sight or take them along.
