Chain reaction crashes delay Thanksgiving travel on I-15

Idaho State Police said several injury accidents marred the Thanksgiving holiday on Interstate 15, including one that involved five other vehicles.

At about 11:27 a.m., a 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by Trent Keepers, 46, of West Valley, Utah was headed northbound when he lost control of his pickup at milepost 84, south of Blackfoot, and went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle rolled on its side. Two passengers, Audrey Keepers, 56, of West Valley, Utah and Georgianne Reyes, 73, of Layton, Utah were taken to Bingham Memorial Hospital.

Idaho State Police responded to two additional crashes at the same location. At 12:14 p.m. a 2010 Toyota Scion, driven by Jacob Klundt, 30, of Roy, Utah slowed for traffic at the scene of the earlier crash, when he was rear-ended by a 2005 Chrysler Cruiser, driven by Jacqueline Dawson-Sahene, 57, of Mill Creek, Utah. Her car was then rear-ended by a 2010 Dodge pickup driven by Marcelino Sanchez, 60, of Heyburn, Idaho.

The second crash happened as traffic continued to slow for the other crashes. A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brandon Hope, 25, of Jerome was rear-ended by a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban driven by David Bissonnette, 45 of Twin Falls, who was then rear-ended by a 2012 Toyota Rav 4 driven by Byron Mollinari, 62 of Blackfoot.

A number of people from both crashes were transported for treatment to either Bingham Memorial or Portneuf Medical Center for treatment.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 15 from milepost 83 to 84 were partially blocked for about two hours while the crashes were investigated.

Earlier Thursday morning, a two-vehicle crash blocked the right lane of Interstate 15 for about an hour. Idaho State Police said a 2004 Volvo XC90 driven by Laurence Nelson, 57, of South Weber, Utah struck the rear of an Idaho Transportation Department snowplow driven by Travis Myler,48, of Downey at approximately 11:10 a.m. . Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were not injured.
