Petition calls for recall of Driggs Mayor
A group of people in Driggs is petitioning to get a recall election for the city’s mayor.
So far, about 80 people have signed the petition and just over 150 signatures are needed for the recall election to happen.
Steve Kerbs, who is gathering signatures, says one reason is that he wants a mayor who listens to the community.
“More in touch with the people,” he said. “And they do work for us. So if a group of people, more than one or two, has an idea I would think that you know, as their employers that we should have a say and that they should listen.”
The mayor was not available today for a comment, but he did refer Local News 8 and Eyewitness News to City Council members instead.
“From what I’ve seen, he listens to everyone,” said Councilmember Greer Jones. “There’s some things he can do and some things he can’t do.”
Jones says the mayor needs to bring some issues to city council first, and other issues are out of the mayor’s jurisdiction.
“There’s not enough substance there to put in a recall election,” Jones said. “It’s going to cost the city a whole lot of money.”
