Michael Coats

Michael has worked for Local News 8 since the Summer of 2006. He started work on the early morning newscasts for several years before accepting a promotion to the evening shift. Before coming to Idaho, he worked for KIFI’s sister station in Palm Springs California. Born and raised in the community of Hemet, Michael attended college at California State University, Northridge. He then studied meteorology with Mississippi State University. Most of Michael’s time in the desert was spent behind the camera as an assignment editor and photojournalist.

Michael spends most of his free time keeping up with his wife Carissa and four children. His wife Carissa used to be a reporter with KIFI and is now an associate real estate broker. The Coats family loves to camp and swim in the warm Idaho Summer months.
