Attorney announces bid for Jefferson County prosecutor

Attorney Paul Butikofer announced Monday that he will be a candidate for Jefferson County Prosecutor.

Butikofer is a Rigby native and a graduate of Boise State University and the University of Idaho. He has served as a public defender in Canyon, Jefferson and Fremont counties, and as a deputy prosecutor in Fremont and Canyon counties.

Butikofer has served in the U.S. Army, the Idaho Army National Guard, and as a Judge Advocate General.

“Twelve years ago, I registered to run for this same position, but was called into active duty and had to withdraw my name from candidacy,” said Butikofer. “now, I am excited to serve my community by providing strong leadership and integrity to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s office.

The Jefferson County Commission was deliberating Monday whether to move the prosecutor’s job from part-time to full-time after the 2016 election.
