Saving you money with America Saves Week

Saving money can be hard to do. But this week for “America Savings Week,” finance leaders in Pocatello want to encourage you to save money. – Reduce debt and build wealth.

Public Relations Manager of the Idaho Central Credit Union, Laura Smith says creating a budget and putting money away can help you save and pay off that hard to kill debt.

“I think you just got to have a get her done attitude,” said Idaho State University student, Chris Cox.

Which is the kind of attitude “America Savings Week” is encouraging you to have with your finances.
ICCU’s Laura Smith says it’s important stay on top of paying off your debts. Not only will they decrease faster., but will better educate you on how to save.

“If you have any extra money you can put towards that bill each month, the more put towards it, the faster it’ll pay it down,” said Smith.

Sevenity-one percent are spending less than their income and saving the difference, which is up from 68 percent in 2014.
That’s according to the Idaho Department of Finance.

But as a habit in nature sometimes, we just can’t stop spending.

To people in general, we should always live within our means. And during college, it can be a tricky time because there are things that you want, trendy things come along.”

But ISU senior Chris Cox is an exception to that…

“I’m already saving with my wife. Every month we take 10 percent of our paychecks basically,” said Cox.

And away into savings they go. Cox works at the Reed Gym as a lifeguard, and has a plan.

“One of things to do is, to get at least $500 in the bank before college even starts that basically your emergency fund really.”

Another thing that helps, make a budget. Cox says that’s the key thing that made him and his wife successful.
