Update: Drunk driver crashes SUV into canal
Update 2:20 p.m.:Derek J. Henninger, 44-years-old, was cited for driving under the influence after being treated at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center early Tuesday morning.
Henninger was driving on the 300 block of St. Clair Road when he failed to execute a turn and crashed into the canal and a cement bridge structure. Henninger was ejected from the vehicle but was not seriously injured.
While being treated for his injuries his blood was also tested for alcohol and was cited for DUI when the results showed him to be over the limit. Henninger was also cited for disturbing the peace after he displayed several instances of wild mood swings.
Original story: A driver is in the hospital after their SUV went off the road and into a canal.
It happened just after midnight Tuesday on the 300 block of St Clair Road in Idaho Falls.
Idaho Falls police say it’s not known why the SUV went off the road.
The driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The condition of the driver is unknown.
