Bonneville school district enters negotiations with Victor construction company

Bonneville school district 93 has entered negotiations with Headwaters construction company to build its new high school.

This comes after controversy about whether Hughes General Contractor, the original choice, had the correct licensure.

Headwaters out of Victor tells Local News 8/KIDK Eyewitness News it’s excited to start the process.

“You know,it gives us a sense of pride for some of our employees and their kids to be going to this school. Every time we drive by it or go to a ball game, it just gives us a sense of pride that we were able to participate and build that project. That’s why I went into construction to begin with. We can see what we’ve done. It’s a tangible physical thing. We’re pretty passionate about construction, and this is the perfect project for us,” said Headwaters president Stan Marshall.

A committee recommended Headwaters as it’s first choice. The school board unanimously approved Wednesday night.

However, the committee and board differed on it’s ranking of second and third choices.

The committee overall ranked Hughes General Contractors,out of Utah second and Bateman-Hall, out of Idaho Falls, third.

The committee said it’s rankings of second and third only differed by less a tenth of a point.

On Wednesday night, the school board decided to rank Bateman-Hall second and Hughes third.

Chairman McBride tells Local News 8/KIDK Eyewitness News the district is ready to move forward.

“Now, we have a budget, and the company has to come within that budget. That’s what the community entrusted us with those funds, to stay within that budget. If this company can do that, if they feel comfortable with doing that, then we will move forward with them. If not, we will go to number two,” McBride said.

3. Hughes General Contractors

4. ESI Construction

5. Ormond Builders

The district says it plans on the new high school opening fall of 2018.
