Chesbro Music continues search for stolen Elvis guitar

It’s a 40-year-old mystery that still has Elvis fans scratching their heads.

A custom-made guitar, created specifically for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, disappeared from Chesbro in Idaho Falls the night before it was supposed to be delivered.

“It was a privilege and I was looking forward to meeting with Elvis Presley, but it just didn’t come about. In fact, I had to contact his people and let them know the guitar had been stolen,” Gary Bennett, who was supposed to deliver the guitar, said. “The guitar was sitting in the back of Ray Johnson’s office in a case. We don’t know how anyone even knew about it, but we went in one morning to get the guitar and it was no longer there.”

It was 1976. Elvis had just started preforming again after a seven-year hiatus.

“This was a really big time for acoustic guitars, as in the past, guitar sales soared with a perfromer who was playing one a lot and Ibanez was interested in courting Elvis,” Jeremy Webster, who works at Chesbro said.
