Despite delay, solar complex project still on-track

A solar complex planned for Power County is still in the works despite some hurdles recently.

Last May, the Power County Planning and Zoning Board unanimously approved a 400-acre solar farm by the company SunEdison. However, recent reports say the company is close to filing bankruptcy.

Bob Steinlicht, Power County’s building administrator, said he was concerned about the project when he heard about the potential bankruptcy. When he called SunEdison, he was told the project had been sold off to Capital Dynamics.

Steinlicht has also been assured that even with the delay of construction caused by the hand-off the project is still on-track to complete by December 2016.

The solar complex is expected to be able to produce enough power for 15,000 homes. It will also give Power County $225,000 annually.
