Last-minute tax filers can still head to the post office
While the post office has has always been a hotspot for last-minute filers on tax day – the lines have definitely gotten a little shorter.
Mostly because of the growing number of options for people to file. With online options like TurboTax and Free File with the IRS, more and more people are going paperless with taxes.
However, that didn’t stop the dozens of people who did show up in person to file. When asked why they went to the post office, a few people said they just wanted to make sure their filing was mailed properly.
One last-minute filer, Doug Milder, said he’s definitely switching to online next year.
Even though it’s closed by now, you can still get your tax filing done at the post office. A self-serve kiosk is available to print mailing labels and as long as it’s printed before midnight the IRS won’t count your taxes late.
The kiosks only accepts debit or credit cards.

Even if you file for an extension, if you owe money the government expects your payment tonight. If you do file for an extension, you have until Oct. 17 to file your taxes.
