Wyoming newcomer questions Cheney’s ties to state
Liz Cheney’s frequent proclamations she’s a multi-generation Wyoming resident came under attack Monday from a political opponent who has lived in the state only a few years himself.
The testy flare-up between Cheney and Gillette veterinarian Rex Rammell happened at a debate in Laramie among Republican candidates for Wyoming’s U.S. House seat.
Cheney said her relatives moved to Wyoming in 1907 because they cared about freedom and reward for “grit and determination.” Moments later, Rammell used his final statement to describe Cheney as a 30-year Virginia resident and establishment politician who should “quit with the lies.”
Rammell got a mix of boos and cheers.
Cheney and Rammell both moved to Wyoming in 2012. Rammell says his family from eastern Idaho has longstanding ties to communities in western Wyoming.
