Update: Fort Hall murder suspect appears in U.S. District Court
UPDATE: According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Haycock, Demetrius Anthony Gomez made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Pocatello on a complaint charging second-degree murder.
During the hearing, Gomez waived his right to a preliminary hearing. A grand jury will consider a formal indictment later this month.
If convicted, he could serve up to life in prison and pay a $250,000 fine.
Gomez also appeared for a violation of supervised release on a previous sentence. He will be back in court in August on that case.
ORIGINAL STORY: The search for an accused murderer is over.
Demetrius Gomez, 29, was arrested Wednesday night just after 6:10 p.m. at a home on North Harrison Avenuein Pocatello. He is wanted for the murder of Tyrone Diaz of Fort Hall. Diaz was shot in the face Monday night.
Law enforcement had the home in Pocatello where Gomez was arrested under surveillance for some time.
Bannock County deputies, along with Idaho State Police troopers, Pocatello Police, Fort Hall Tribal agencies, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation received a federal warrant to search the home. Idaho State Police arrested Gomez without incident during the search.
