Update: Man arrested after standoff identified by sheriff’s office
Update 5/13/16 2:55 pm: Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man arrested in an incident Friday in Swan Valley. The sheriff’s office arrested 24-year-old Michael J. Chandler after a short standoff outside of a Swan Valley cabin.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office,at approximately 9:45 am Deputies located a vehicle in the near the South Fork Lodge in Swan Valley that was associated with Chandler. Deputies were looking for Chandler after he was reported by family as being suicidal and in the Swan Valley area.
Deputies found that a nearby cabin that had been entered by force and they held a perimeter until additional help from the Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Police could arrive. Eventually, Chandler spoke to officers and they were able to enter the cabin and take him into custody safely and efficiently. Chandler was intoxicated and was found to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest for probation violation.
It appears at this time that Chandler did not know the owners of the cabin and was not associated with it in any way. Chandler was transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked on the warrant as well as misdemeanor unlawful entry and malicious injury to property.
Update 5/13/2016 12:55 pm: According to information obtained by Local News 8 and KIDK 3 Eyewitness News the man at the center of the situation in Swan Valley had a misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest.
According to the sheriff’s office, the cabin the man entered does not belong him and he has no affiliation with it. During the arrest the man did cooperate with deputies and agreed to come out but couldn’t because he couldn’t reopen the door. Deputies had to force the door open to get the man out.
Update 5/13/2016 12:42 pm: The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the man they were searching for at a cabin in Swan Valley. The man was arrested without injury and is currently being interviewed. We’ll continue to bring you details on the situation as we receive them.
Original Story: Law enforcement officers fromhavesurrounded a cabin in Swan Valley near the South Fork Lodge as they search for a man who may be armed.
Members of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, and Idaho Falls Paramedics are at the location to assist with the situation. At this time, the team is waiting for a robot to safely search the building.
