“Refuse to be a Victim” class provides self defense tips

One violent crime happens every five seconds. One rape happens every two minutes. With the high frequency of crime in the U.S., self defense is a necessity.

Bob Davis has a lengthy history in law enforcement and protection. He uses the knowledge he’s gained to teach self defense to women.

He uses the same movements he learned while protecting dignitaries in California.

“A lot of the techniques like the techniques we’ll be using today would be the techniques we would use if you had someone come out of a crowd,” Davis said.”I feel confident in them because we use them all the time.”

The main goal of his class is to avoid becoming a target.
“Knowledge is power and if you know what to look for there are tell tale signs that people will do before they attack,” he said.

There are two types of targets: hard targets and soft targets.A soft target would be someone who is distracted, such as texting as they walk to their car. Whereas, a hard target is aware of their surroundings.

“We teach how to look for those little nuances that signify that you’re in danger,” Davis said. “That most people just overlook.”

He says park in well lit areas, pay attention to those parked around the vehicle, and make sure to know who is within 21 feet of you at all times. Action is always faster than reaction.
