Be prepared for Fourth of July holiday traffic
With the long weekend everyone is packing up their trailers and RVs, and with that, there will be a huge increase in holiday traffic.
The Idaho State Police is gearing up for many more people on the roads. The Idaho Falls area, specifically, will have thousands of people coming in to celebrate the Fourth of July.
“The Idaho Falls area is going to have a lot of people here on Monday for the Fourth of July. There’s going to be thousands upon thousands of people here. So really take your time, observe the traffic control, adhere to the law enforcement guidelines out here and really just have a fun time,” said Idaho State Police Lt. Chris Weadick.
Idaho State Police has partnered with the Idaho Transportation Department to increase the amount of troopers on the streets, especially around work zones.
“We’re putting extra troopers out there to really promote that traffic safety. Not only the traffic safety but worker safety. For the construction workers out there, it can become a very dangerous situation when you’re mixing speeding vehicles with people that are on the side of the road,” said Weadick.
Even though this weekend is considered an “impaired campaign” for the state police, they will still be looking for the usual distracted drivers and speed violators.
